Thanks again to our reliable News Scout, Virg Hemphill (at left), we have this short (3:38) video of the new Singapore Airport. Its latest expansion seemed to spare nothing, and cost some 1.3 BILLION dollars to complete. It might have been worth it. What do you think? It’s now held that prestigious title for some seven (7) years running. Its new lifestyle hub is appropriately entitled the “JEWEL.” The airport itself is called “Changi.”
I have flown into Singapore, but it was in the mid 80s. I was a 2nd Officer on a DC-10 at the time, and must have been the first female flight officer in that part of the world. People would stare at me and then giggle. The whole staff from the operations office were standing on the jet bridge when the door was opened. They had heard me on the radio and wanted to see this strange woman!!!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Captain Nancy, she was one of the early female airline captains – one who, surprisingly, didn’t even learn to fly until in her late thirties, when she was a single mother – – – of teenagers. She has been a long-time member of the FASF and has also been one of our more important contributing authors. Her first published book, “Captain Nancy” is well described in the link that follows. http://thethund.ipower.com/YouFlyGirl/BookReviews/CaptainGramma.html
